Insurance Company:
- Provides the product (your policy and coverage)
- Determines whether or not damage to your home is covered by your policy
- Assigns one of their adjusters or an independent adjuster to your claim
- Examples: State Farm, Allstate, Farm Bureau, Progressive, Chubb, State Auto, Farmers, ...
Local Insurance Agency:
- Sells and services your policy
- Always call your local insurance agency before calling the insurance company claims department. It may not be in your best interest to file a claim. They can tell you what your policy deductible is and possibly give you an idea of whether or not the damage to your home may be covered under your homeowners policy.
- Examples: Clay and Land Insurance, State Farm - Michael Wiseman, Hollis and Burns Insurance, Farm Bureau - Brent Colbert, Farm Bureau - Damon Juckett, Kellon Insurance, Allstate - Rod Lovelace, Thompson Insurance, ...
Adjuster:
- Adjusters help the insurance company determine if the damage to your home is covered by your policy.
- Some are independent and some work directly for the insurance company. You may be assigned a field and desk adjuster or just one of them. This depends on how the insurance company handles claims and not all companies handle claims in the same way.
- Field adjusters come to your home to complete an inspection. They inspect the damage and report all findings to the appropriate department within the company.
- Desk adjusters work from an office within the company.
- Adjusters sometimes choose to write their own estimate for a claim while others may decide to use an estimate created by your contractor.
- The adjuster is usually your contact for claim payout.
